Project Brief
This project represents the first stage in the design of a bespoke kitchen and dining space within a new extension of approximately 80 m². At this stage, the brief focused on establishing the overall layout, proportions, and general design language for a traditional painted shaker kitchen, using a furniture-led approach rather than a fully fitted perimeter scheme. The AGA cooker was identified as the primary focal point, with the design structured around clear elevations, symmetry, and restraint appropriate to the scale of the room.
The proposed layout includes a long sink run on the north wall with a large Belfast sink centred between two windows and no wall cabinetry, maintaining a calm horizontal emphasis. An AGA is set within a purpose-built inglenook on the east wall, flanked by drawer storage and vertical cupboards with a solid oak shelf above. A freestanding cook’s table with a dark oak base, sycamore worktop, and stone inset sits centrally within the space. Opposite the AGA, a painted glass-fronted dresser incorporates a lower drinks cabinet to balance the room visually. The next stage of the project will develop this initial concept into fully resolved workshop drawings and detailed joinery information for manufacture.
